Day Retreat, Helios London + Zoom: 9 December 2023 with Michele Sisto

Michele almost incidentally started meditating one Thursday evening in Soho, over 15 years ago, and has been meditating ever since. He has studied Buddhism with a variety of different teachers, especially in the Tibetan tradition. His main guide is Ringu Tulku Rinpoche. For a few years now, Michele has been leading Bodhicharya London’s popular, stimulating “Middle Way” Buddhist philosophy study group.

The Wheel of Life

How We Are Trapped in Worldly Existence, and How to Gain Freedom

The Wheel of Life, Bhavachakra, illustrates the process of existence and rebirth in cyclic existence, in ‘Samsara’.

Some of us, especially in the West, may find it difficult to relate and fully understand teachings on rebirth. Yet they are a classical, ancient Buddhist topic. Fuelled by ignorance, we keep revolving in Samsara. We want to find happiness, but repeating the same mistakes that caused our suffering in the first place, we continue to suffer, unable to see suffering’s true causes. The colourful imagery of the wheel of life can help us to direct our focus on what really counts: liberation from cyclically existence, which is indeed possible.

In this day retreat, we will use two authoritative sources: the commentary on the ‘Wheel of Life’ by HH the Dalai Lama and the one by Ringu Tulku Rinpoche. We will study this with a sincere wish to better understand the teachings and how apply them to our life in order to find true freedom.

The day will alternate between meditation, discussions and activities where we will explore how we could transform ourselves.

Hope to see you there! Beginners are very welcome.
